Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At the age of 27 He enrolled in the National Theatre School of Denmark. He graduated in 1994. He also appeared on The Killing, a drama series which was broadcast across the world. He later appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill the two internationally highly acclaimed Danish drama series. He also played a pivotal character in the BBC drama Sherlock where he played the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television show House of Cards, he was the president of Russia. In the year 2018, he received an International Emmy Award for his role as the president of Russia on the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was shown in the UK in the year 2019. According to Mikkelsen's statement, he was taught English from his brother listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
